Arsenal's Adebayor Refuses To Fly For World Cup Qualifier

Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has refused to fly with the rest of the Togolese squad for their crucial 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Zambia.

The Gunners forward was the only member of the Togolese squad not to fly after a row had erupted over the players wanting Togo Football Federation president Tata Avlessi Adaglo to fly with them.

The TTF explained that Adaglo would not be making the trip as he was preparing for his mother’s funeral. This, was accepted by the rest of the squad, but not by Adebayor, who remained in Lome as the rest of the team flew out on Tuesday.

Vice-president Gabriel Ameyi flew instead, with the Togolese squad leaving without their most high profile player for these vital games.

This comes on the back of the resignation of French coach Henri Stambouli last week after only four months in the job, which leaves Togo without a manager or their star player for these key qualifiers.
