Spurs Legend Hoddle Hopes Ramos Is Given Time

Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has revealed that he hopes Spurs boss Juande Ramos is given time to build success at White Hart Lane, with the former Tottenham midfielder calling for the Spaniard to be given time to turn things around at the North London club and break the cycle of discarding managers.

Hoddle was a firm favourite with the crowd at White Hart lane during his twelve years at the club between 1975-1987 and took over from George Graham as Tottenham boss in 2001, following spells in charge of Chelsea, England and Southampton.

However, the former England International was sacked in 2003 and feels that he was not given the time to bring stability and success to the club.

Hoddle said: “If Ramos is the lucky one to be given that time then I can see some stable success over time but if they do change him this year then we are back in this cycle.

“There is a mammoth task on their hands to turn things around but at least it is early on in the season.

“They have got good players but they are going to need time - more time than just this season even.

“They won the League Cup last year which could have been a stepping stone to more success but it looks as if they've missed that opportunity now."

The most recent manager to depart Tottenham, was Martin Jol, who was sacked despite two successive 5th place finishes in the Premier League after having a poor start to the 2007/2008 season,

Ramos, who guided Spurs to League Cup glory at Wembley last year, has overseen Tottenham’s worst start to a season for 34 years this season, but must be given more time, according to Hoddle.

Tottenham were heavily tipped to make a push for the top four this season, but despite Ramos adding Giovanni, David Bentley, Luka Modric and Roman Pavlyuchenko to the Spurs squad, his team find themselves at the bottom of the premiership.
