Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce is close to completing a deal for Ghanaian International keeper Richard Kingson, who is a free agent after having his contract terminated by Bruce’s former club Birmingham City.
The Latics are in the market for a new keeper after the transfer of Carlo Nash to Everton earlier in the summer, with Bruce looking set to bring Kingson, who he signed for Birmingham to the JJB Stadium.
Bruce is confident of landing Kingson, with a keeper top of his priorities as Chris Kirkland and Mike Pollitt are both injury prone and he feels that a third keeper is needed at the Premier League side.
Bruce told the Wigan Evening Post: “Kingson is the No.1 goalkeeper for Ghana and we're hoping he will join us. At the moment he's with Ghana - they're playing in Libya this weekend, so he should be coming to see us next week.
“He hasn't got a club at the moment and we're allowed to bring in out-of-contract players. We need three goalkeepers, and make no mistake, if I hadn't got him lined up, I wouldn't have let Nash leave.”
