Arsenal Boss Wenger Receives Double Midfielder Boost

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that midfielder Alexandre Song could be back in the Gunners squad to face Sunderland in the Premier League at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, while Abou Diaby is only a week or two away from full fitness.

This will come as a relief to Wenger, who sees Song or Diaby as the natural partner for Cesc Fabregas in the Gunners midfield. Brazilian Denilson has an impressive goal and assist ratio in the position, but Wenger is understood to be concerned about the Brazilian’s defensive capabilities. With the Frenchman preferring to play Song or Diaby when fit alongside EURO 2008 winner Fabregas.

Wenger also revealed that there are no new injury worries for the North London club ahead of the visit to Roy Keane’s Black Cats.

“We have no new injuries and we might have Song back in the squad for Sunderland,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference.

“Diaby is very close now. He is two weeks or one week away. I think after the international break Diaby is ready to play.”
