Arzo In The Dark Over Sunderland Interest

Spanish defender Cesar Arzo has revealed that there has been no contact with any English club, despite reports linking the Villarreal player, who is currently on loan at Recreativo Huelva with a January move to Sunderland.

Black Cats manager Roy Keane is understood to have sent a scout to watch Arzo last month in the La Liga clash against Atletico Bilbao, with the scout returning to the Stadium of Light with a glowing report for Keane on the highly rated 22-year-old.

However, Arzo has revealed that there has been no contact from the North East side, but did state a desire to play at a bigger club after finding himself surplus to Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini’s requirements at the Estadio El Madrigal. With the central defender spending the last two seasons on loan at Recreativo and Real Murcia.

“My mission at the moment is just to play,” said Arzo.

“I want to demonstrate that I can play at a bigger club, rumours [of Sunderland's interest] have arrived in the last few days but I honestly have not spoken with any English club.”

Villarreal have also claimed that they have had no contact with anyone about a proposed move for Arzo, who still has three years left on his present deal with El Submarino Amarillo.

“We have not had any form contact about the boy, but any decision on his future does depend on us,” said a Villarreal spokesman.
