Brazilian club Gremio have placed a £21million buyout clause on midfielder Douglas Costa, who has been dubbed ‘the new jewel of Brazilian football’ after reports linking the starlet with Premier League Champions Manchester United along with La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
18-year-old Costa recently signed a new deal at the Olimpico Monumental, with the Imortal Tricolor increasing their prodigy’s buyout clause by £16million to £21million as Europe’s powerhouses circle one of the brightest talents in Brazil.
Costa ha been in superb form for Gremio in the Campenato this season, with the Under-19 International being invited to train with the senior Brazil squad, but despite all the attention, Costa remains modest and just wants to play football.
Costa said: “I don't have think about this. I only have that to play football. I face this with calmness. I am not a star.”
Some have compared Costa to United midfielder Anderson, who moved to Old Trafford from Porto last year, but also started his career at Gremio. With reports claiming that Costa shows more promise than 20-year-old Anderson did, who is now an integral part of the team at United.
Should the Red Devils follow up their initial interest Costa would join a growing Brazilian contingent at United, with Rodrigo Possebon and Anderson along with the Da Silva twins Rafael and Fabio, who are all in Sir Alex Ferguson’s first-team squad.
