Sunderland Target Sevilla's Brazilian Midfielder Renato

Brazilian International Renato has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Roy Keane’s Sunderland understood to be leading the race for the Sevilla midfielder, according to reports in Spain.

Keane has been told, by Black Cats chairman Niall Quinn that he will have the necessary funds to bring in players to the Stadium of Light when the transfer window opens January. With it understood that defensive-midfielder Renato is on the former Manchester United players list of targets.

However, Renato has always maintained his desire to stay in La Liga at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, with Rojiblancos chairman Jose Maria del Nido having a reputation for being hard to negotiate with when it comes to letting one of his Sevillistas leave Andalusia.

This is not thought to bother Keane though, who is eager to establish Sunderland as a force in the Premiership, with a big-money offer expected in January for the experienced International to make the switch to the North East club
