Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Martin Jol has left Newcastle United target Thimothee Atouba out of his SV hamburg squad to face Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga this weekend. Further fuelling speculation that the Cameroon International is heading for St James’Park.
26-year-old Atouba had been linked with a move to Premier League debutantes Hull City earlier in the summer, but rejected the offer to join Phil Brown’s side at the KC Stadium.
There has been lots of confusion surrounding the future of left-back Atouba in recent days, when the former Spurs player turned up at training after Jol had resigned himself to losing the defender.
A statement on the club's official website read: “The Cameroonian player left for England on Friday to undergo a medical with Newcastle United, but then surprisingly turned up at team training.
“Seeing that his future is unclear, coach Martin Jol has removed him from the squad to face Bielefeld.”
