Everton are set to make their second signing this week, with Ecuador International Segundo Castillo poised for a switch to Goodison Park from Red Star Belgrade.
26-year-old Castillo has been at Crvena Zvezda since joining from Venezuelan team El Nacional in 2006, and has scored 19 goals in 72 appearances from midfield for the Meridian Superliga runners-up.
Castillo did have a trial with Premier League rivals Blackburn Rovers earlier this summer, but the move to Ewood Park fell through when the midfielder failed to agree personal terms with Paul Ince’s side.
The expected arrival of Castillo will please Toffees boss David Moyes, who is down to the bare bones in midfield due to injuries at the Merseyside club.
Castillo will follow Lars Jacobsen to Everton, who joined on a free transfer earlier this week. With the arrival of the South American softening the blow of missing out on Portuguese International’s Tiago and Joao Moutinho along with Albert Riera, who is set to join local rivals Liverpool.
It is understood that 26-year-old Castillo will join Everton on a season-long loan subject to being granted a work permit, with a view to making the deal permanent next summer.
