Man City Set To Complete Transfer Of Argentine International

Manchester City are set to complete the signing of right-back Pablo Zabaleta from Espanyol in Spain.

23-year-old Argentine International Zabaleta is to swap the Estadi Olimpic Lluis for the Eastlands Stadium for a transfer fee of £6.5million (€8m), subject to passing a routine medical.

Zabaleta joined Espanyol from San Lorenzo in 2005 and has made over 75 appearances for the Periquitos, with the Argentine looking forward to a new start in the Premier League. Although the defender did promise the Espanyol fans he would return to the La Liga side.

“Everything went very quickly. An opportunity to play in England happened and I like the new challenge,” he told As.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to wear Espanyol’s shirt again because that’s something huge.

“The doors remain open. I want to tell you 'see you soon'.

“People from the club treated me well since the day I arrived. Sharing those three years has been a joy because I lived unforgettable moments.

“Espanyol signed a 20-year-old player, they made big efforts and I paid them back with my commitment.”
