Tottenham Hotspur director of football Damien Comolli has revealed that Spurs failed in a late attempt to secure the services of a third striker at White Hart Lane due to agent activity.
Russian International Roman Pavlyuchenko and Fraizer Campbell both arrived at Spurs before the transfer window closed, but Comolli has claimed that a third forward was due to sign for Juande Ramos’ side after a deal had been agreed, which is believed to have been Wigan Athletic’s Emile Heskey.
However, Comolli did not actually name the striker, who was thought to have been a done deal.
“I am particularly disappointed that we were unable to make one additional signing, another experienced striker,” Comolli told the clubs official website.
“The deal was agreed but fell through in the final moments due to agent activity.
“It is all too often that judgments are made on how these deals are or are not concluded and the reality and the reasoning that happens is often very different and highly unpredictable.”
