Arsenal Target Giovinco: 'My Renewal With Juventus Is Not A Priority'

Arsenal are on red alert after the news that Juventus starlet Sebastian Giovinco has claimed that signing a new deal with La Vecchia Signora is not his priority, which will fuel speculation that a January transfer to the Emirates Stadium is on the cards.

The Gunners had been linked with the 21-year-old playmaker, who helped Italy win the 2008 Toulon Tournament and also starred in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. With reports earlier in the summer claiming that the North London club were lining up a £6million offer to tempt Giovinco away from the Serie A giants.

Giovinco is reportedly after a €1million-a-year deal with Juve, after starring for Empoli on loan last season, but has revealed that he does not care if he gets a new deal at the Stadio Delle Alpi or not.

“My renewal with Juventus is not a priority and to be honest I couldn’t careless whether the contract is renewed or not,’ Giovinco told Tuttomercatoweb.

‘My agent should be thinking about certain things and for now I know my future is with Juventus.

“I will accept Claudio Ranieri’s decisions regarding whether or not I play on the pitch.”

Giavinco’s agent Claudio Pasqualin stated earlier in the summer that his client must be paid what he is worth or Juve could face losing their young prodigy, although he also stated that Giovinco would prefer to stay in Turin.

“If an offer was to arrive from Arsenal, or from abroad, we would block the bid,” said Claudio Pasqualin.

“However, Juventus certainly must be fairer in the evaluation of their players.

“At the moment they are not. Giovinco may be young but he must be paid what he deserves.”

Wenger in the meantime will be pleased with these latest comments and could consider testing the Italian clubs resolve with a firm offer for Giavinco in January. There had been talk of a swap-deal involving Robin van Persie earlier in the summer, but the Dutchman is highly unlikely to figure in any deal for Giavinco.
