Boro Boss Southgate Lands Premier League Award

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has picked up the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August, after Boro’s best start to a Premiership campaign in nine years.

Middlesbrough have made a promising start in the Premier League, winning against Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City at the Riverside Stadium, with their only defeat coming against Liverpool at Anfield in a game where the North East side were unlucky not to come away with at least a point.

Southgate has now become only the second person to collect a Player and Manager of the Month Award, with the other person being England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce.

Former England International Southgate was delighted to collect the award, revealing that the award was the result of all the hard work the squad at the Riverside had done in pre-season.

Southgate told the official Boro website: “It’s a great honour and one that I except on behalf of all my staff and the entire club really.

“I think it’s for July and August because all the preparation was done in the month before.

“I feel that we’ve been a really united club for that period and the performances we’ve had in August has been due to the work we’ve done in pre-season.”
