Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill has revealed that he thinks Spanish defender Carlos Cuellar is finally ready for his Villans debut after his £7.8million summer transfer from SPL giants Glasgow Rangers.
27-year-old Cuellar has recovered fully from a calf strain and has impressed O’Neill with his performances in two reserve matches for the Midlands side, with the SPL Player of the Year possibly being named in the squad to face Tottenham Hotspur in Villa’s Premier League match at White Hart Lane on Monday.
O’Neill has also revealed that he intends to make full use of his squad in the coming weeks as Villa prepare for 7 games in just 21 days.
O’Neill said: “Cuellar is doing very well indeed. He has played a couple of reserve games now.
“He has got himself into a bit of shape and I think he is just about ready for what lies ahead.
“We have an early advantage following the international matches, in which some people like Gareth Barry and Martin Laursen played twice, in not playing until Monday evening.
“But then that is negated by having to travel to Bulgaria on Tuesday for a UEFA Cup game on Thursday.
“We have four in the next nine days after not playing for 15-16 days. It will be unimaginable not to be using all of the players. I am sure everyone will be playing in the next week or so.”
