Free Agent Mineiro Plays In Friendly For Arsenal

Brazilian International Carlos Mineiro has played in an unofficial friendly for Arsenal against Fulham, according to Young Guns.

33-year-old Mineiro, who is a free agent after leaving Bundesliga team Hertha Berlin earlier this summer, with it believed that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add the defensive-midfielder to his squad at the Emirates Stadium, which lacks experience in central midfield.

Wenger failed to land a holding-midfielder before the transfer window closed, with the North London team having a £14million offer for Spanish International Xabi Alonso turned down by Premier League rivals Liverpool on deadline day.

The Gunners had been linked with Ghana captain Stephen Appiah, who is also a free agent, but Wenger ruled out a move for the former Juventus player on Friday, with it now looking like it will be Mineiro that Arsenal will add to their midfield.

Chelsea are understood to have made an offer to bring the Brazilian to Stamford Bridge, but North rather than West London seems to be the likely destination for Mineiro, with the midfielder due to undergo more training with the Gunners before Wenger makes the decision on offering the Brazilian a contract at the Emirates.
