Heskey: 'Anybody Who Tells You He Wants To Leave Liverpool Is Lying'

England International Emile Heskey has admitted that he didn’t want to leave Liverpool for Birmingham City in 2004, with the Wigan Athletic striker revealing that his Anfield exit still plays on his mind.

Heskey found himself surplus to requirements at the Merseyside club after four-years with Liverpool, which saw the target-man leave for Birmingham and then follow manager Steve Bruce to the JJB Stadium in 2006. Where Heskey has resurrected his career and forced himself into Fabio Capello’s England squad.

30-year-old Heskey made 150 appearances for the Reds, but regrets not being able to add to that figure, with the striker who started his career at Leicester City insisting that his time had run its course at Anfield.

“It was a disappointment to leave Anfield,” he told the The Sunday Times.

“Liverpool are such a big club. Anybody who tells you he wants to leave a club like that is lying.

“But, if your time has run its course, it's no use hanging on.”
