LMA Backs Arsenal Boss Wenger In Platini Row

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has received the backing of the League manager’s Association in the wake of UEFA president Michel Platini’s recent attack on the Gunners manager.

Platini gave an astonishing interview to French paper Dauphine Libere in wich the UEFA chief accused Wenger of putting business before footballing matters, with the former France and Juventus midfielder also revealing that he would be happy if the Emirates boss never saw the introduction of video replays.

Wenger responded on Tuesday by claiming he was taken aback by the “aggressive comments” of Platini and now the LMA have also backed one of their most important members.

In a statement the LMA have revealed that they are dismayed at Platini’s comments, while chairman of the LMA former England manager Howard Wilkinson has claimed that Platini’s views were not expressed in an appropriate manner, regardless of their content.

“Platini has made serious and personal comments about one of football's greatest ever managers, who is also counted among our most respected members,” said Wilkinson.

“If Platini wishes to address certain issues with Arsene Wenger this would better be done privately and not in the public domain.

“I believe Arsene has always acted in the best interests of the game."

LMA chief executive, Richard Bevan, added: “There is an overwhelming majority in favour of goal-line technology among our members.

“It is important that Platini does not lose touch with the current views and opinions held on technical matters within bodies such as the League Managers Association.”
