Newcastle In Takeover Talks With Dubai International Capital

Newcastle United have started talks with Dubai International Capital, with Magpies vice-president Tony Jiminez flying out to the middle east to start negotiations about a possible takeover at St James’ Park.

DIC had been interested in taking over at rival Premier League club Liverpool, but missed out as American's George Gillett and Tom Hicks took over at Anfield.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has decided to put the club up for sale after less than 18 months in charge of the North East club, with Ashley deciding to sell in the face of a backlash from the Toon Army, who have fiercely protested about the manner in which manager Kevin Keegan resigned from the Magpies shortly after the transfer window had closed.

DIC are believed to be seething at the way the ADUG have stolen a march on them by buying Manchester City and subsequently breaking the British transfer record, when they signed Brazilian International Robinho from La Liga Champions Real Madrid, which has prompted DIC to start talks with Newcastle to thrash out a deal for the Magpies.

However, Ashley has claimed that he will not sell the club he bought in May 2007 for £135million on the cheap, after sinking an estimated £100million of his own money into Newcastle since then, with the sports shop tycoon also claiming that the club is in a stronger position than when he purchased it.

“I hope that the fans get what they want and that the next owner is someone who can lavish the amount of money on the club that the fans want,” Ashley said in a statement.

“This will not be a fire sale. Newcastle is now in a much stronger position than it was in 2007. It is planning for the future and it is sustainable.”
