Real & City In Late Berba Bids

The straight forward tug of war between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United over Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov became more complicated on the last day of the transfer window, with Manchester City and Real Madrid both reportedly lodging formal offers for the Bulgarian International.

United have been linked with the Bulgarian all summer, with it widely thought that the former Bayer Leverkusen forward would head to Old Trafford once Tottenham had completed the signing of Roman Pavlyuchenko from Spartak Moscow, which they did today.

However City, who are the talk of the footballing world after the takeover today by the Abu Dhabi United Group have launched a late bid believed to be in excess of £30million to lure Berbatov to the Eastlands side of Manchester. Which is understood to have been accepted by the board at White Hart Lane.

Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim, who heads the ADUG is hopeful that Berbatov will join City, while manager Mark Hughes is also confident of the capture of Berbatov, which would represent something of a coup should they snatch him from under the noses of their local rivals.

“I think it's agreed between ourselves and Tottenham,” Mark Hughes told Sky Sports News.

‘Now really it's down to the boy to make a decision, I think.”

Berbatov is believed to have held talks with Ferguson today and was due to undergo a medical tonight before completing his switch to the Red Devils.

However, as if the involvement of City was not enough, reports in Spain are claiming that La Liga giants Real Madrid have also made an offer for the 27-year-old, with it believed to even top what Man City offered to Spurs for Berbatov.

If City should fail to tempt Berbatov from joining Real or United then they have also revealed that they have made offers for EURO 2008 star David Villa and German International Mario Gomez. Showing that the new Arab owners intend on flexing their financial muscle immediately.
