Tottenham Hotspur and Bolton Wanderers are set to fight it out for the signature of Sporting Lisbon’s Simon Vukcevic when the January transfer window opens, ook set to battle it out for Sporting Lisbon's Simon Vukcevic when the transfer window opens in January.

22-year-old Vukcevic joined Sporting last summer from FC Saturn, with the left-sided midfielder scoring 7 goals in 19 appearances for the Leoes during his time at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, but has fallen out of favour with coach Paulo Bento. This has lead to Vukcevic declaring that he is ready to leave the Portuguese side in when the window reopens after a move to the Premier League did not materialise in the summer.

The Montenegro International had been heavily linked with a move to the Reebok Stadium during the summer, with Trotters boss Gary Megson reportedly ready to make a fresh move for Vukcevic in January.

However, Spurs manager Juande Ramos is a keen admirer of Vukcevic and is understood to be preparing a move for the Montenegran in January, with the Spaniard having missed out on several targets during the summer. After seeing the strike-force of Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov leave White Hart Lane for Liverpool and Manchester United respectively. While only adding Roman Pavluychenko as a proven goalscorer.

Vukcevic told the Daily Mirror: “I've already decided I'll leave in December.

“This is a very difficult situation for me and I'm going to ask the club if I can leave in the winter.

“I know English clubs were interested in me during the summer but nothing happened. My agent will have to act now.”
