Tottenham Hotspur have sent scouts to monitor striker Jimmy Briand at Ligue 1 club Rennes, with a view to a January move to bring the forward to White Hart Lane.
23-year-old Briand has been at Rennes since he was a youngster and has made over 100 senior appearances during his time at the Route de Lorient, with the striker having attracted interest from Tottenham’s Premier League rivals Arsenal and Portsmouth in the summer. Briand has also been linked with Lens, Paris St Germain and St Etienne in France.
Briand has two-years left to run on his present deal with the Les Rouges et Noirs, with the French club valuing the player at £8million, having already turned down a £6million bid for the striker from Paris St Germain this summer.
Tottenham are said to have already watched Briand once in Ligue 1, with the striker scoring against Le Havre and plan to watch Briand again before deciding on if they will make an offer in January to bring the French International to the Premiership, according to The News of the World.
However, should Spurs decide to add Briand to Manager Juande Ramos’ squad at the North London side. They could land the striker for £7million, with it believed that Rennes are unwilling to sell Briand to another French club.
