Spurs: Newcastle Will Never Get Permission To Speak To Poyet

Tottenham Hotspur have moved quickly to warn Newcastle United off any approach for Juande Ramos’ No 2 at White Hart Lane Gus Poyet, for the vacant manager’s post at the North East club.

Poyet has been strongly linked with a move to St James’ Park due to his close relationship with Magpies executive director Dennis Wise, who he played with at Chelsea and worked alongside at Swindon Town and more recently Leeds United.

However, despite the Uruguayan’s friendship with Wise, a Spurs source has claimed that Poyet will not leave for Newcastle and that the Toon would never get permission to speak to Poyet.

The source told The Sun: “Gus is on a long-term contract having only joined the staff a year ago.

“It wouldn't be cheap if Newcastle tried to get him. But it won't even get that far, there's no way they'll get permission to talk to him.

“Gus will be a great number 1 one day, but he's happy at Spurs and is held in very high regard here.”
