Spurs Target Arshavin: 'No Offers From Zenit To Sign A New Contract'

Russian International Andrei Arshavin has revealed that a potential January transfer to long-term suitors Tottenham Hotspur is “difficult to speak” about. With the Zenit St Petersburg playmaker also revealing that he has yet to receive an improved contract offer from Zenit St Petersburg.

27-year-old Arshavin came very close to a move to White hart Lane this summer, but despite wanting to leave for Juande Ramos’ Spurs side the move collapsed after the two parties could not agree on a price for the Russian.

Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal were also linked with a move for Arshavin, along with La Liga giants FC Barcelona, although it is understood that Tottenham were the only club to make a firm offer for the Russian.

With the transfer window closing, Arshavin’s agent claimed that a January move to Spurs could still happen as Zenit were happy to negotiate again, but when asked about a January move to the Premier League the striker did not expand on his agent’s comments.

“It is difficult to speak about a possible transfer in the winter, Arshavin told Sport Express.

“What can I tell you? I had no offers from Zenit to sign a new, improved contract.

“I am a realist and, of course, everything that happened depresses me. But if people did not want me to move, that is their right.”
