Spurs To Sign Arshavin In January?

Russian International Andrei Arshavin could still become a Tottenham Hotspur player in January, according to his agent Dennis Lachter, who says the deal is far from dead for the Zenit St Petersburg playmaker.

Spurs pursued Arshavin all summer, but were unable to agree on a fee for the EURO 2008 star, with the White Hart Lane club not willing to match the Zenit's valuation of Arshavin.

Despite making a late push to see the deal go through the two sides remained in deadlock, with Tottenham then completing the transfer of Arshavin’s Russian strike partner Roman Pavlyuchenko.

However, Lachter has confirmed that the Zenit president Alexander Dyukov is ready to try again in January if Spurs are.

“Zenit were not happy with the payment structure of the transfer fee over several years and the fact Tottenham resumed talks so late,” Lachter told Sovietski Sport.

“They came back at the dawn of the closure of the Russian transfer window and that would not have left Zenit enough time to find a replacement.

“However, (Zenit president, Alexander) Dyukov said that if Tottenham are still interested in buying Arshavin then we can revisit the subject when the winter transfer window opens in January.
