Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is weighing up a January move for Barcelona starlet Sergio Busquets as the Gunners look to strengthen the midfield when the transfer window reopens, according to The Mirror.
Spanish Under-21 International Busquets current deal at the La Liga giants runs out next summer, with it understood that the midfielder is stalling on putting pen to paper on a new contract at the Nou Camp.
This has come to the attention of Wenger, who is no stranger to signing promising youngsters from Barca, having lured EURO 2008 Winner Cesc Fabregas away from the Catalan side when he was just 16 in 2003. With Fran Merida also arriving at the same age at the Emirates Stadium Barcelona in 2006.
20-year-old Busquets has been given a chance in the Barca first-team by new coach Pep Guardiola this campaign, who the young midfielder played under last season for the Barcelona B side. His performances in La Liga this season have earned the Spaniard his first Under-21 cap this month, with Busquet also scoring his first European goal on Wednesday in the 5-0 rout 0f FC Basel in the Champions League.
Serie A side Juventus have also been linked with a move for Busquets, with La Vecchia Signora set to battle it out with the North London club for the signature of Spain’s rising star should he fail to agree a new deal with Barcelona.
