Baszczynski: 'Wisla Are Stronger As A Team Than Spurs'

Marcin Baszczynski, captain of Polish team Wisla Krakow is confident that Wisla can add to the misery of Tottenham’ Hotspur’s season by knocking them out of the UEFA Cup on Thursday.

Juande Ramos’ Spurs team travel to Poland with a slender 2-1 advantage from the first leg at White hart Lane, but sit at the foot of the Premier League, having failed to register a win yet in the Premiership, with a 1-0 defeat against Wisla enough to end their European hopes.

“We know all about Tottenham's problems and the pressure is on them to get a result,” Baszczynski told BBC Sport.

“Our team spirit and form is very strong and we believe we will win.”

White Star were unlucky to not take anything away from the first leg at Tottenham, with the Polish side eventually going down to a Darren Bent winner after a spirited away performance at White Hart Lane.

This win is only one of two for Ramos, with Spurs’ other win coming at Newcastle United in the Carling Cup, with the Spaniard desperate to stay in the competition he won twice as a coach with former club Sevilla.

However, 31-year-old Baszczynski believes that although Tottenham are favourites for this clash the pressure is all on them, with the defender claiming that Wisla are stronger as a team than Spurs.

“Without doubt, Tottenham are the favourites for this game," said Baszczynski.

“This season we have kept four clean sheets in the league and two in Europe - if we can stop Tottenham from scoring we have the players to get us goals

“But we can cause a surprise and we will do everything to win the match and go through to the group stages, this is what we've been dreaming about.

“Tottenham have some world class individual players but Wisla are stronger as a team.

“You could see evidence of that in the first leg and, even though we were beaten, we are confident it will help us win on Thursday.”
