Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester City are to go head-to-head in a race to sign AZ Alkmaar playmaker , according to reports.
21-year-old Dembele has been at Alkmaar since joining from Eredivisie rivals Willem II in 2007 and has scored 9 goals in 48 appearances for AZ during his time at the DSB Stadion.
The Belgian International is under contract to AZ until 2012 and is valued at around £11million, according to IMScouting.com, with the versatile youngster able to play on the wing or in the centre of midfield or as a secondary striker.
While the fee for Dembele is quite high, his wages are more modest, with the midfielder said to be on £18k-a-week, also according to IMScouting.
Both Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and City counterpart Mark Hughes are expected to bolster their midfields when the transfer window reopens in January, with the two Premiership clubs due to battle it out for the signature of Dembele.
