Tottenham Hotspur are planning a £35million double raid on Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich, with Italian International Luca Toni and Lukas Podolski wanted by Spurs to bolster their misfiring attack at White Hart Lane, according to sources close to the North London club.
Tottenham had been linked with a move for 23-year-old Podolski all summer and will be heartened by the strikers comments on Thursday, where the former FC Koln striker revealed that he will have to make a decision in the winter on his future at the Allianz Arena if he continues to only play a bit part for Bayern under coach Jurgen Klinsman.
It now appears that not only will Spurs make a move for Podolski, but also Toni (left), who is the player keeping Podolski out of the starting line-up at Bayern, with it reported that a £35million offer will be made to lure the pair to the Premier League.
However, Spurs will face competition from Premiership rivals Manchester City for the signature of Podolski along with Arsenal and Everton, who are also keen on the prolific German International. While it is also understood that Klinsman is reluctant to let either Toni or Podolski leave the Munich side, with Miroslav Klose the only other experienced striker at the club.
Tottenham boss Juande Ramos is a big fan of Toni, with the Spaniard looking for a big powerful all action target-man to lead the line at White Hart Lane and Toni fits the bill perfectly.
31-year-old Toni joined Bayern from Serie A side Fiorentina in 2007 and has scored 27 goals in 36 games since his arrival from Italy. While Podolski has a more modest record for Bayern due to limited opportunities, but has been in prolific form for Germany.
