Newcastle's Owen Out Of Sunderland Clash, But Beye Gets Red Card Reprieve

Newcastle United striker Michael Owen is set to miss the North East derby with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday due to a groin strain, Magpies boss Joe Kinnear has revealed.

England International Owen is also likely to miss the Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion at St James’ Park the following Wednesday.

“Michael, unfortunately, will not be fit in time for Sunderland and, of course, that's a blow to lose a striker of his calibre,” Kinnear told the club's website.

However, Kinnear did receive some good news after the FA rescinded Habib Beye’s red card, which the defender received for a last gasp tackle on Brazilian International Robinho against Manchester City at the weekend. Beye is now available for the Magpies clash with the Black Cats, with the overturning of the decision meaning the Senegal International will not face a three match ban.
