Tottenham's Pavlyuchenko Hopeful Of January Arshavin Reunion

Tottenham Hotspur’s new signing Roman Pavlyuchenko is hopeful that Spurs will sign his Russian International strike-partner Andrei Arshavin fom Zenit St Petersburg in January, with the forward believing it would help him succeed at White Hart Lane, according to his wife Larisa.

Pavlyuchenko signed for Tottenham in a £14million deal from Spartak Moscow in the summer, but has conceded that he has found it hard to adapt to life in the Premier League and would welcome the arrival of fellow Russian Arshavin (left).

Larisa Pavlyuchenko told Pravda newspaper: “Arshavin? I know his wife Yulia. I'd be glad if another Russian appears at the club.

“Of course Roman is trying to communicate with his new team-mates, but it would be easier for him if there was a Russian there.”

Pavlyuchenko’s wife also revealed that the reason behind the delay in the striker signing for Juande Ramos’ side was due Pavlyuchenko’s reluctance to uproot his young family from Russia, but also said that had there not been a smooth relationship with Spartak, the decision would have been easier.

She said: ‘I always told him: 'It's only you who can choose. Whatever your decision is, we'll always back you and will follow you.

“Roman called me time and again, asking: 'Will you manage to get used to it?'. And I replied: 'Please don't think about us. It's better to go and try now than later regret missing this opportunity.

“The fact is, the offer came out of the blue. It was a bit too scary to think about changing everything, when things were going so smoothly in Moscow.

“We would have left without thinking twice if there had been any problems for Roman in Spartak. But there weren't. Besides, our child feels at home in Moscow. Kristina has friends in the neighbourhood.

“But Roman's performance is much more important than all these routine problems now. All I want is for Roman to be successful in England.”
