Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill is lining up a January swoop for Reading striker Kevin Doyle, with Marlon Harewood being allowed to leave for the Madejski Stadium as part of a £10million deal, according to The Mirror.
25-year-old Doyle is the leading goalscorer in England, with 8 goals already for the Royals this season, which has put him at the top of O’Neill’s wanted list in January. O’Neill will have to pay in the region of £10million for the Republic of Ireland International, but is willing to let £4million rated striker Harewood leave Villa Park to ensure the deal goes through.
Reading boss Steve Coppell fought hard during the summer to keep the Doyle at Reading following their relegation from the Premier League, with the Villans heavily linked to the forward. However, Coppell now appears to be resigned to losing Doyle, who has been at the Madjeski since 2005, with the Royals manager claiming that if players want to move then now is the time to perform, while they are in the shop window.
Coppell said: “People have focus at the club right now, because the window is closed and they have a job to do.
“If they want to get a move, then they are in the shop window and they have to perform.”
