Wigan's Honduran Pair Play Down Transfer Talk

Wigan Athletic’s Honduran pair Wilson Palacios and Maynor Figueroa have played down reports linking them with a move away from the JJB Stadium in January, with the Central Americans insisting they are both happy at the Latics.

Both midfielder Palacios and defender Figueroa have impressed this season in the Premier League and are key players in manager Steve Bruce’s team. Which has led to speculation linking the pair with a switch from the JJB when the transfer window reopens in January.

24-year-old Palacios has been at the North West side since joining from Olimpia in January after an impressive loan spell under Steve Bruce at Birmingham City. The playmakers performances have caught the eye of Premiership Champions Manchester United, who are reportedly ready to make a big-money move for the midfielder in January.

However, Palacios is adamant that the only club he is thinking of is Wigan and not a move to Old Trafford.

“I am working hard and at the moment I am thinking only of Wigan,” Palacios told Sky Sports News.

25-year-old Figueroa is on loan at Wigan from Olimpia for the second time, with the defender extending his loan after a successful loan spell from January to the end of last season.

Wigan have the option to sign Figueroa permanently in January, with Figueroa eager to show the Latics and the rest of the Premiership that he is good enough for the top-flight of English football.

“I will do my best to show to Wigan and perhaps other clubs that I am worthy of the Premier League and who knows what the future will bring,” he told Sky Sports News.
