Daglish: Next Newcastle Manager Will Not Be Me

While Kevin Keegan still remains the favourite with bookmaker’s to return to Newcastle United as manager once owner Mike Ashley has sold the club. Former Magpies boss Kenny Daglish has moved quickly to dismiss reports that he was in line for a return to St James’ Park.

Daglish succeeded Keegan as manager at the North East club in 1997 after Keegan quit Newcastle after five-years in his first spell in charge of United. However, despite guiding the Toon to second place in the Premier league and a place in the newly formed Champions League that season, Daglish was sacked in 1998 after a poor start to the 98/99 Premiership campaign and managing only a 13th placed finish the season before.

The former Liverpool and Celtic striker has claimed that no one from Newcastle has been in contact and is adamant that he will not be making a return to management in the North East.

“Nobody from the club has contacted me and I won't be returning,” Dalglish told the Evening Chronicle.

“It's sad that things have gone wrong at Newcastle, but the next manager will not be me.”
