Kevin Keegan has delivered an ultimatum with a list of demands to be met by Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley or the former England manager will leave the Magpies for a second time, according to The Telegraph.
57-year-old Keegan’s future has been surrounded in doubt at the North East club in the past 48 hours, with reports suggesting that he had quit amidst rumours of the board trying to offload players behind his back and bring players into the club without his knowledge or say so.
Newcastle did issue a statement on Tuesday revealing that they had not sacked Keegan, while the League Manager’s Association issued their own statement on Wednesday claiming that they had spoken to Keegan and he had not resigned either. Yet Keegan has not been seen at the Magpies training ground for days.
Now in a new development Keegan has reportedly told Ashley, if he doesn’t sack Dennis Wise and Tony Jiminez, as well as give him control over all transfers and contract negotiations he will walk away from the Magpies again.
This stems from reports that claim that the entire first team was put up for sale in the summer, with reports also claiming that Keegan’s director’s also tried to sell England striker Michael Owen behind his back and troubled midfielder Joey Barton.
In addition to this the two Toon signings on transfer deadline day, Xisco and Ignacio Gonzalez were brought into St James’ Park without Keegan’s prior knowledge or indeed permission. This along with the sale of James Milner to Aston Villa, which Keegan was opposed to, has left the Newcastle boss feeling undermined and wondering exactly what his role at the club was.
The Newcastle fans have left everyone in no doubt as to who they back, with calls for the board to be sacked when the news broke on Tuesday, which could sway Ashley into the decision that Keegan is more important to the Toon than Wise or Jiminez.
