Newcastle United: 'If Ashley Genuinely Wants To Sell He Is Going About It The Wrong Way'

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has been accused of going about selling the North East club in the wrong way by a spokesman for Kuwait businessman Nasser Al Kharafi, who is the latest person to be tipped to takeover at St James’ Park.

Ashley is determined to make a profit on the club he bought 16 months ago for £130million, although Ashley has ploughed in another £110million of his own money to curb debts at the Magpies.

However, Ashley is reportedly asking a massive £480million for Newcastle, with the sportswear magnate hawking the club round the wealthy elite of the Middle East, but has been putting off potential buyers with the huge asking price and his refusal to negotiate.

An intermediary working on behalf of Al Kharafi has confirmed that the Kuwaiti is interested in the Premier League club, but despite being the 29th richest person in the world, will not pay over the odds for Newcastle.

The intermediary said: “Nasser Al Kharafi has the money to buy the club, but the way Mike Ashley is going about things is wrong.

“He is actually putting off any interested buyers with the price and his refusal to negotiate. If he genuinely wants to sell he is going about it the wrong way.

“At the last estimate Nasser was worth around US$12bn, but he still won’t pay over the odds for the club. Mr Ashley seems to think he can ask what he wants because he is dealing with people who are multi-billionaires, but that simply isn’t the case.

“As things stand he will be returning to England without a buyer.”

So it now looks like this link with Al Kharafi will come to nothing, with Dubai International Capital ruling themselves out of a bid on Wednesday, which leaves Ashley having to rethink his willingness to negotiate, or come back to England without a buyer for the Premiership side.
