Real Madrid Midfielder Invites January Spurs Offer

Spanish International Ruben De la Red has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur made an attempt to sign him during the summer, with the Real Madrid midfielder also insisting that he is keeping his options open, when the transfer window opens in January.

Spurs boss Juande Ramos is a big fan of 23-year-old De la Red from his time as coach of La Liga rivals Sevilla, with the Tottenham manager already looking to strengthen his squad at White Hart Lane after the North London clubs worst start to a season in 34 years.

De la Red spent last season on loan at Getafe, where his performances forced the midfielder into the Spain squad for EURO 2008. Now back at the Bernabeu it is understood that Los Merengues could be willing to cash in on De la Red, who has stated that he likes the way football is played in the Premier League.

De la Red said: “It gives me a lot of pride that big teams have shown an interest in me because they were genuine offers.

“I am not closing the door to any team. I like the Premier League and the way they play their football.

"It's always nice when your work is acknowledged by important English and Spanish clubs - it means you are making progress and that you're on the right track.”
