Former Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has ruled out returning to St James’ Park as manager of the Magpies for the second time. After interim Toon boss Joe Kinnear claimed that Shearer would be returning in a Newcastle dream team with former manager Kevin Keegan once owner Mike Ashley has sold the North East club.
Kinnear, who was unveiled as Newcastle interim boss in a shock develolpment on Friday revealed that he is only keeping the seat warm for former England International’s Keegan and Shearer.
Newcastle’s appointment of Kinnear has surprised Shearer as much as anyone. Considering that Kinnear last managed in 2004, when he was Nottingham Forest boss.
Shearer told Match of the Day: “I was as surprised as anybody was that he (Joe Kinnear) was appointed. Judging by his interviews it looks like he's a little bit embarrassed himself.”
Shearer had already ruled out the possibility of a first foray into management alongside Keegan at St James’ Park, with the Toon record goal-scorer claiming again there is no truth whatsoever in Kinnear’s claim that he is to work alongside Keegan at the Premier League club.
“None whatsoever, I don't know where that's come from at all. Don't know what they're talking about,” he added.
“But it's a great opportunity for him - he's in a no-lose situation.”
