Torres Delight At Derby Double For Liverpool

Spanish International Fernando Torres has said that he is relieved to have ended a barren run by the Liverpool striker’s standards to score twice to sink Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Liverpool’s top-scorer last year in his debut Premier League season struck twice in the second-half of a fiercely contested derby with the Toffees to ensure that the bragging rights belonged to the Anfield side. In a match that saw Tim Cahill sent off controversially for Everton.

The Spaniard’s brace sends Rafa Benitez’s side to the top of the Premiership and maintains the Reds unbeaten start to this campaign.

“Not scoring for six games is too long for a striker,” said Torres.

“It hasn't been affecting my confidence because I knew that if I kept working hard the goals would arrive.

“Now I want to keep going and score again in the Champions League next week. I want to improve on my 33 goals from last season.

“It was an important three points today. We know how important this game is for the fans and the players because we want to stay towards the top of the table.

“We know if we're in the top three or four in January and also in the next round of the Champions League then we can have a fantastic season.”
