Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa take on Sunderland in their Premier League match at Villa Park on Saturday.
The Villans will be hoping continue their early season form in the Premiership, which has seen them win their last two away games at West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur. Villa stand 4th in the table and have ambitions under O’Neill to maintain that Champions league place.
Roy Keane’s Black Cats make the trip to Villa on the back of a 2-0 derby win against Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light last weekend, with Sunderland looking a vastly improved side from last season after a busy summer of recruitment in the North East. Which sees Sunderland comfortable in 8th place in the Premier League.
Martin Laursen and Nigel Reo-Coker are set for recalls after being rested for the Carling Cup defeat by Championship side Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday, but O’Neill is still unable to call on long-term absentees Steve Sidwell (knee) or Wilfred Bouma (ankle).
Sunderland are expected to recall Craig Gordon and Steed Malbranque, who sat out the penalty-shoot-out win over Northampton Town in the Carling Cup, but it is still too early for striker Kenwyne Jones (knee) to return or Teemu Tainio (shoulder).
