Spanish International Cesc Fabregas has revealed that “It would be a dream to return to Barcelona one day”, but insisted that he is happy at Premier League side Arsenal and would like to win more trophies with the Gunners before making a return to his homeland.
21-year-old Fabregas is a boyhood Barca fan and a product of the Catalan sides youth academy. The midfielder left the Nou Camp for Arsene Wenger’s team as a 16-year-old sensing his opportunities at the La Liga giants would be limited, despite being a prolific goalscorer from midfield for the Barcelona youth team.
The EURO 2008 winner has constantly been linked over the past couple of seasons with Barca’s great rivals Real Madrid, but it is hard to imagine Fabregas ever playing for Los Merengues given his attachment to the Blaugrana.
While the Spaniard is happy to remain in North London at the Emirates Stadium, where Wenger has nurtured his talent and allowed Fabregas to develop into one of the best midfielder’s in the world. However, Fabregas has hinted that another year without a trophy at Arsenal could mean making a return to La Liga sooner rather than later.
“I would like to try to win more titles here, although next season we'll see,” Fabregas revealed.
“It would be a dream to return to Barcelona one day.”
Fabregas does believe that Arsenal are heading in the right direction under Wenger and has applauded the way that the young players have adopted the philosophy of the club.
“It is wonderful to see so many players from the youth system in the team, so well adapted to the philosophy of the club,” he added.
“I decided to give my all for Arsenal and I'm not the kind of person to just give up on things just like that.”
